Now before you go around the room, hi-fiving your buddies and sending this to everyone who has ever made fun of you for making fun of your video gaming habits, realize this article comes from:
(first) the Internet and
(second) from a picture that doesn’t have the greatest of news credentials that I’ve ever seen, so be aware this could be someones idea of a joke.

I’ve done some research on it, some say its an April fool’s joke from IGN and then I’ve found, what I believe to be the original news article from a real Internet news page… in Norwegian. I can’t read/translate these pages, and I can only trust google translator so much.  The Norwegian article found here.

Now regardless of truth or not, I personally would like to believe this story to be one of truth. Yes, mostly because its about time someone says video games have helped Mr. or Mrs. “Unan I. Mous” and because I am a believer in video games are better for you than they are bad for you.

You hear complaints of how games are violent and how they are taking over minds of the innocent children to go out and do horrible evil and unthinkable things… like kicking puppies and… disfiguring property by poking it with a stick… repeatedly even!

No, I’d like to believe in this one story and the advantages of gaming. Maybe nothing so quite as literal as trying to LARP (or Live Action Role-Playing) against moose and using abilities like “taunt” or “feign death” but one of more practical and realistic lessons and/or applications.

(Now these lessons are ones that are ones I’ve personally noticed in my life and no two gamers may find the same results.)

The first lesson that speaks directly to me from video games and most difficult lesson I’ve learned from video games is one I know but continue to struggle with daily.

Persistence.  The oh so infamous quote comes to mind…  ”I’m sorry, but the princess is in another castle”

Pushing yourself each day to make your goal. Enduring to the end. Obstacle after obstacle, enemy after enemy, the hero always continues to make it to that next checkpoint. To that next level. I still see and understand the importance of seeing things through to the very end, even if it is tough. And as I said, its not easy and I’m still learning. Still trying. But I understand the importance and try to better myself to make those goals and checkpoints in my life, no matter what.

The second lesson is short and sweet and ties into the first.
The more friends you have with the same goal in mind, the easier the goal is reached and the more fun you have getting there!

The third lesson I’ll share was probably actually the first thing I’ve learned from video games.

They would be one of heroism and chivalry.  I might not be climbing a tower to rescue some poor innocent girl, but I do understand the importance of standing up to those that might want to do harm in some way to either myself or those who might not be able to stand for themselves. When it comes to my values and ideals, I won’t be quiet or allow myself to be a pushover for things important to me in my life.

Lesson Number 4.
No matter how big or bad of difficult a situation can look, with the right perspective and strategy you can overcome anything!

Lesson 5.
Good actions lead to good consequences.
If there is a choice or a chance to help out a random person, there will usually be a better reward or having new doors open up to you down the road than leaving them alone or doing the wrong thing.

Lesson 6.
Hand-Eye coordination is soooooooo much better with video games teaching you than so many other tools.

Lesson 7.
If no one cares about objects and/or said objects are not nailed to the floor, take it. TAKE IT ALL!! And then stuff it away in the “too good to use” pile until special occasions.
I admit… I am a bit of a pack rat and I do hoard all of my precious items… I’m not the only one!   ><;   I mean, you really don’t know when that empty bottle or random key will come in handy!  Right?  RIGHT!?!?

Lesson 8.
Video games are a huge way to relief stress and anxieties and are a source to let out your feelings instead of keeping them bottled up deep inside. They are a great way to experience somethings we might not be able to in any other place.

Always stand up for your video gaming rites and nerdom! Show some people out there that we aren’t all learning to pick up the nearest pointy object and terrorize those who can’t defend themselves or those who are just plain innocent. If you have a great life lesson you’ve learned through video gaming, please share it!
Its just like thinking back to the WOW kid up against the moose. You can’t help but feel the awesomeness and then share that feeling with others! Can’t get any better. So thank you for reading… I’m gonna go squish some zombie heads and prepare for the appoclypse thats bound to happen soon and learn some more life lessons….
